Does your dog's nose turn pink after an afternoon at the park? Short-haired breeds, white coats, and any pup who naps belly-up are prone to sunburn — and human sunscreen isn't safe for them. Sun Shield is a natural, zinc-free cream that gives noses, ears, and bellies reliable sun protection you can feel good about.

Why dog owners choose Sun Shield

Sun Shield is a lick-safe cream made in Canada with food-grade botanical ingredients. It's built for the spots that burn first — the bridge of the nose, ear tips, belly, and groin — and goes on light, with no white cast and no greasy residue.

  • Zinc-free & lick-safe: Made with food-grade, non-toxic ingredients — no zinc oxide, no PABA. Safe for the most curious licker.
  • Mineral sun protection: Made with non-nano titanium dioxide and botanical oils, including raspberry and pumpkin seed oil.
  • Nourishing & soothing: Shea butter, jojoba, and vitamin E moisturize dry skin and help calm irritation, keeping your dog comfortable in the sun.
  • Light & non-greasy: A smooth, fast-absorbing balm that spreads easily — no white cast, no sticky mess on fur or hands.
  • Made in Canada: Small-batch crafted with premium botanical oils by Barks & Boops.

Which dogs need sunscreen?

Any dog can get sunburned, but some need sun protection more than others. Sun Shield is especially helpful for:

  • Short-haired breeds like pit bulls, boxers, Dalmatians, and greyhounds
  • White or light-coated dogs and pups with pink noses or ears
  • Hairless breeds and dogs with thinning fur
  • Beach days, hikes, patios, and backyard sunbathers

How to use Sun Shield

Apply a thin, even layer to exposed areas — nose, ear tips, belly, and groin — at least 15 minutes before sun exposure, and massage until fully absorbed. Reapply after swimming, heavy panting, or roughly every 2 hours during extended outdoor play. For best results, also offer shade and limit midday sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Ingredients

Titanium Dioxide (TiO2), Shea Butter, Yellow Beeswax, Coconut Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil, Lanolin, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Arrowroot Powder, Vitamin E Oil.

Available sizes

Frequently asked questions

Is Sun Shield safe if my dog licks it?
Yes. Sun Shield is formulated with food-grade, non-toxic ingredients and contains no zinc oxide or PABA, so it's safe if your dog licks a treated area.

Can I use human sunscreen on my dog instead?
It's not recommended. Many human sunscreens contain zinc oxide or salicylates that can be harmful to dogs if licked and ingested. Sun Shield is made specifically for dogs.

Sun Shield is proudly made in Canada in small batches by Barks & Boops.

How often should I reapply?
Reapply after swimming or heavy panting, or about every 2 hours during long days outdoors.
